Just an idea for the future enhancements in custom fields.  Add an ability to assign a “Group” to a Custom Field to better be able to visually organize them into an understandable section.  This would be both in the Project Details Window, as well as the Custom Fields tab of the project.  

 

For example - I have several custom fields in each of the following phases of the project.  Right now I just try to put all the fields in this order - and just have to “know” the breaks/groupings that should be there.

  • Project & Deal Information
    • Deal Owner
    • Deal Type
    • Purchase Type
    • Platform
  • Links to Other Related Systems
    • Zendesk Ticket
    • HubSpot Deal
    • Slack Channel
  • Contract Information
    • Start Date
    • End Date
    • Billing Contact
    • Notes to Accounting
  • Meeting Resources
    • Kick Off Meeting Recording
    • User Training Recording
    • Admin Training Recording
  • Transfer to CSM
    • CSM Assigned
    • CSM Email

That’s the first thing I said too!!

 

The way we’re doing it rn is using a toggle field that does nothing/goes nowhere. It’s not ideal, but it does help organize the chaos in the meantime.

@egard100 what a great idea!  What does it look like on the Custom Fields tab of the project?

 

@chrishaleua - don’t get us wrong - we LOVE your new Custom Fields!!!  But you know how it goes - you give us one thing and we think of 10 other things that would go good with it! 😂


Great ideas! I have already shared this with engineering and it makes total sense to everyone. It will take us a while to get there, so the workaround will be helpful for the foreseeable future, but we will probably make this a part of the phase where we go back and add things like more flexibility on which status that is used to require custom field values are set (like before completion etc).

I just not realized that blank fields don’t show up in the Custom Fields tab (that seems weird but 🤷)  so if y’all prefer the tab more than the details sidecart, and you were using this idea, you would have to set the toggle default to “on”. Otherwise, it doesn’t show up in the tab!
